Our vision is for CBAC churches to embrace a theology of the household of God — a church where every generation finds its place in the life of the congregation.
We long to see young people move beyond being participants in programs to being known as brothers and sisters in Christ: fully included, deeply valued, and empowered to share in the life of the church.
This isn’t about diminishing older generations or elevating younger ones. It’s a recognition that young people are too often spoken of as “the future of the church,” while their place in the present is limited. Children and teenagers bring real gifts — curiosity, honesty, imagination, and a sharp sense of who’s included and who’s left out. Their presence calls us to listen more closely and live the Gospel more fully, together.
Why Now?
Many young people are walking away from church — not always rejecting faith in Jesus, but leaving communities where they never experienced real belonging.
Belonging: Knowing you are part of a community — connected to others, shaped by shared life, and learning to care about what matters to one another.
At the same time, younger generations are reporting the highest levels of loneliness on record. That’s both a challenge and an opportunity.
We believe the church is uniquely positioned to respond — not with more programs, but by becoming a community where people are truly known, needed, and loved. That kind of community isn’t static; it changes as new people are welcomed in, the way a household changes when someone new joins the family.
This is:
- An invitation to rethink how your church disciples young people
- A guided process rooted in theology, relationship, and practice
- A cohort experience — learning alongside other churches
- A step toward becoming a more intergenerational, connected community
This is not:
- A youth program curriculum
- A requirement to hire staff or build new structures
- A quick fix for attendance or growth
- A guarantee of long-term sustainability
What to expect
This is about faithfulness — investing in the next generation as part of Christ’s church, wherever that journey leads.
The 9-Month Journey (Timeline)
Phase 1 — Learning & Listening
(Months 1–3) Slow down and pay attention — to theology, to context, and to the lived experience of your young people.
Phase 2 — Experimentation
(Months 4–7) Take small, intentional, relational steps based on what you’ve learned and noticed. No big program changes required.
Phase 3 — Reflection & Integration
(Months 8–9) Reflect on what’s changed, what relationships have formed, and what’s worth continuing beyond the pilot.
Throughout all three phases, your team will join monthly cohort gatherings with Dan or Hannah from the CBAC NextGen Department, alongside simple local conversations and next steps between sessions.
